The Lovers
Major Arcana · VI · Air
The moment of genuine choice that reveals what you most deeply value.
Upright meaning
The Lovers shows two figures beneath an angel, with the tree of knowledge behind the woman and the tree of flame behind the man — the integration of mind and passion under the blessing of something larger than either alone. This is not merely a card of romantic love; it is the card of the choice that aligns values with action, of the union that is chosen rather than simply fallen into. The decision indicated here is real and has real consequences; take it with full awareness.
Reversed meaning
The Lovers reversed marks a misalignment at the core of a relationship or decision — a choice made from fear, social pressure, or comfortable habit rather than genuine desire and authentic values. Something that should be a union of two whole people is instead a codependency, a compromise of self, or an avoidance of the harder choice. Return to what you actually value and let that be the guide.
