LifeAstroAPILifeAstroAPI

The astrology API for Vedic, Hindu calendar and Western apps.

LifeAstroAPI is a REST API for Vedic astrology and the Hindu calendar: panchang, festivals and vrats, kundli, dasha, kundli matching, muhurat, horoscopes, numerology, tarot and Western astrology.

  • 311 REST endpoints under one API key, including 12 composed JSON and PDF report endpoints.
  • Festival and vrat dates verified entry for entry against the printed panchang calendars of 14 cities on four continents (4,427 of 4,427 entries).
  • Computed with the Swiss Ephemeris; Lahiri ayanamsa by default, other ayanamsas on request.
  • Astronomy checked against NASA JPL Horizons and NASA eclipse data with a published, rerunnable script: planet positions median 0.05 arc-seconds, sunrise/sunset/moonrise within 10 seconds, all 44 eclipses of 2021–2030 found with the same type (lifeastroapi.com/accuracy/#astronomy).
  • Location-aware: every calculation takes latitude, longitude and an IANA timezone, so results are correct outside India too.
  • Narratives and names in 10+ languages, including Hindi and regional Indian languages.
  • Open-source MCP server with 310 tools for Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients: github.com/ayanshulife/lifeastroapi-mcp.
  • Official Node.js / TypeScript SDK on npm: `npm install lifeastroapi` (source: github.com/ayanshulife/lifeastroapi-node).
  • Free tier: 1,500 credits a month, no card required. Paid plans from ₹999 / $29 a month; pay-as-you-go also available.

What an astrology API does

An astrology API turns a date, time and place into astrological data your software can use: the position of each planet, the ascendant and houses of a birth chart, the day's panchang, the dates of festivals and vrats, a compatibility score for two charts, or the best muhurat in a date range. You send an HTTPS request with your API key; you get JSON back. No ephemeris files to manage, no almanac tables to transcribe, no timezone arithmetic to get wrong.

LifeAstroAPI is one API for both traditions. The Vedic side (also searched for as a Jyotish API, Hindu astrology API or Indian astrology API) covers panchang, kundli, dasha, matching, muhurat and the full Hindu festival calendar. The Western side covers natal charts, synastry, transits, returns and 23 house systems. Both run on the Swiss Ephemeris, so positions agree with NASA JPL Horizons to a fraction of an arc-second (measured and published).

Your first call

Every endpoint takes a date, a timezone and, where the result depends on the place, a latitude and longitude. This returns the day's panchang for Delhi:

curl "https://api.lifeastroapi.com/v1/panchang/basic?date=2027-01-15&tz=Asia/Kolkata&lat=28.6139&lon=77.209" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"

The quickstart walks through signup to first response in five minutes. Every page of the API reference shows a request that was run against the API and the real response it returned.

How to choose an astrology API

  • Location-aware results. Tithi, sunrise and festival dates change with latitude, longitude and timezone. An API that assumes one city gives diaspora users the wrong day.
  • Verified accuracy you can rerun. Ask for the comparison against an independent reference, not just the name of the ephemeris.
  • Real response examples in the docs, so you know the field names before you write code.
  • A free tier large enough to build a prototype, and pricing that scales with calls, not seats.
  • Narratives written by people in the languages your users read, if you show readings and not just numbers.
  • A way for AI assistants to call it (an MCP server or tool definitions) if you are building an agent.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free tier?

Yes. Every account gets 1,500 free credits a month with no card required. Paid plans start at ₹999 / $29 a month, and pay-as-you-go is available.

Can AI assistants such as Claude or Cursor call it directly?

Yes. The open-source LifeAstro MCP server exposes every endpoint as a tool for Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients that run local servers, using your existing API key.

Which ephemeris and ayanamsa does it use?

Planet positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris. Vedic calculations use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa by default; other ayanamsas can be selected per request.
