The 30 Tithis

A tithi is the time the Moon takes to gain 12° on the Sun. Thirty tithis make a lunar month: fifteen in the bright half (Shukla Paksha) ending at Purnima, fifteen in the dark half (Krishna Paksha) ending at Amavasya. The tithi current at local sunrise names the civil day.
