/v1/panchang/lagna-table

All 12 lagna (ascendant sign) rise-times for the day — shows when each zodiac sign rises on the eastern horizon.

What this tells you

The lagna table shows when each of the 12 sidereal signs rises on the eastern horizon, from local sunrise to the next sunrise. At Indian latitudes a sign takes roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours to rise; signs of short ascension rise faster than signs of long ascension, and the spread grows with latitude. Muhurta practitioners use lagna tables to choose the exact time for an auspicious ascendant — for example, scheduling a business launch when Taurus or Cancer is rising.

Field reference

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.

FieldTypeMeaning
datestring (YYYY-MM-DD)
The requested date. The table runs from local sunrise of this date to the next sunrise.
example: "2027-01-15"
locationobject
Echo of lat, lon and alt (metres).
example: { "lat": 28.6139, "lon": 77.209, "alt": 0 }
tzstring
Echo of the tz you sent. All *_local times are in this zone.
example: "Asia/Kolkata"
slotsarray
One entry per rising sign, in order. The first entry starts at sunrise and the last ends at the next sunrise, so both are usually partial (the first one here lasts under 3 minutes).
example: […]
slots[].indexinteger (0–11)
Sidereal sign on the eastern horizon: 0 = Aries … 8 = Sagittarius … 11 = Pisces.
example: 8
slots[].signstring
Sign name. Translated when you pass `locale` (hi, mr, ta, kn, bn, gu, pa, te, ml).
example: "Sagittarius"
slots[].start_jd / end_jdnumber
Start and end of the slot as Julian Day in UT.
example: 2461420.572762
slots[].start_local / end_localstring (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS)
When this lagna starts and ends in local time. Each sign change is found to within 1 second, and the next slot starts 1 second after the previous one ends.
example: "2027-01-15 07:14:47"

Usage tips

How to use it

  • Muhurta apps
Display a timeline of lagna changes. Highlight trinal lagnas (1st, 5th, 9th from the janma lagna) as especially auspicious windows.
  • Visualize as an hourly chart
Each slot maps to a time window — render it as a colour band on a 24-hour timeline.
  • Localize sign names
The `sign` field is locale-resolved — pass ?locale=hi to receive sign names in Hindi (e.g. धनु), ?locale=ta for Tamil, ?locale=mr for Marathi, etc. Use `index` for logic, not the name.
