What this tells you

Mangal (Kuja) Dosha occurs when Mars sits in certain houses of a birth chart. Classically it is read as a caution for married life. This endpoint checks one chart: it counts Mars's house from the lagna and from the Moon sign, and flags houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 12. Two cancellation rules are checked: Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) and Mars exalted in Capricorn. Other classical cancellations, such as both partners having the dosha, are not checked here — call the endpoint for each partner and compare. In practice most astrologers treat Mangal Dosha as a caution rather than a strict bar.

Field reference

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.

has_dosha	boolean	True when Mars is in house 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12 counted from the lagna or from the Moon sign (whole signs). Stays true when a cancellation applies. example: `true`
type	string	"purn" when Mars is in house 1, 7 or 8 from the lagna. "mild" for any other dosha placement (house 2, 4 or 12 from the lagna, or a dosha house from the Moon only). "none" when there is no dosha. example: `"mild"`

Usage tips

How to use it

Always show cancellations
Never show "Mangal Dosha present" without the cancellation result — it causes needless worry. In the sample, has_dosha is true and cancellation.cancelled is also true.
Parameter pattern
Takes one chart as birth.date, birth.time, birth.tz, birth.lat, birth.lon (birth.time defaults to 12:00). It does not read boy.* or girl.*. Call it once per partner.
Negative house numbers
A negative entry in houses is a house counted from the Moon, not an error. Use its absolute value as the house number.

Errors

Every error follows the same envelope. Use the error.code field (not the message) for conditional logic in your integration.
