/v1/chart/houses

Whole-sign house cusps.

What this tells you

By default this endpoint uses whole-sign houses, the usual Vedic method: each zodiac sign is one house, starting from the ascendant's sign, so every cusp falls at 0° of a sign. Pass `house_system=placidus` (or koch, equal, campanus, porphyry and others) to get computed cusps instead. The bhava lord of each house is its sign lord; where that lord sits in the chart (another house) is the basis of many yogas.

Field reference

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.

FieldTypeMeaning
datestring
Birth date you sent (YYYY-MM-DD), echoed back.
example: "1990-01-15"
timestring
Birth time you sent, echoed back. "12:00" when you leave `time` out.
example: "10:30"
tzstring
Timezone you sent (IANA name or fixed offset such as +05:30), echoed back.
example: "Asia/Kolkata"
locationobject
Birth coordinates used. `alt` is in metres and is 0 unless you send `alt`.
example: { "lat": 19.076, "lon": 72.8777, "alt": 0 }
ayanamsastring
Ayanamsa used. Default lahiri; set it with the `ayanamsa` parameter (lahiri, raman, krishnamurti, fagan, yukteshwar, true_chitrapaksha).
example: "lahiri"
ayanamsa_valuenumber
Ayanamsa in degrees at the birth moment. Sidereal longitude = tropical longitude − this value.
example: 23.71795
house_systemstring
House system used for the cusps in `houses`. Default whole_sign; set it with the `house_system` parameter (placidus, koch, equal, campanus, porphyry and others).
example: "whole_sign"
ascendantobject
The lagna. Same object and fields as /v1/chart/ascendant.
example: { "sidereal_lon": 326.391667, "sign_index": 10, … }
houses[]array of 12 objects
The 12 houses, always in order 1 → 12.
example: [{ "house": 1, … }, …]
houses[].houseinteger (1–12)
House number.
example: 1
houses[].cusp_lonnumber (0–360)
Sidereal longitude where the house starts. Whole-sign: the start of the sign (sign_index × 30). Other house systems: the computed cusp.
example: 300
houses[].sign_indexinteger (0–11)
Sign of the cusp: 0=Aries, 1=Taurus, …, 11=Pisces.
example: 10
houses[].sign_lordstring
Ruler of that sign — the bhava lord of this house. Translated with `locale`.
example: "Saturn"
houses[].deg_in_signnumber (0–30)
Degrees of the cusp inside its sign. Always 0 for whole-sign houses.
example: 0
houses[].dms_in_signstring
Degrees, minutes and seconds of the cusp inside its sign.
example: "00°00'00\""

Usage tips

How to use it

  • KP cusps and sub lords
This endpoint has no star or sub lords. For KP (Placidus) cusps with star, sub and sub-sub lords, call /v1/chart/kp-house-significator.
  • Bhava lord placement analysis
    Cross-reference each `sign_lord` with /v1/chart/planets — "Where is my 10th lord?" → take `houses[9].sign_lord`, then read that planet's `house`.
  • Planet houses stay whole-sign
Changing `house_system` changes the cusps here only. The planet `house` numbers in /v1/chart/planets and the other chart endpoints are always whole-sign.
