API Reference / Vedic Astrology / Chart (Kundli)
/v1/chart/house-occupants
Which planets are in which houses.
What this tells you
A pre-computed convenience endpoint: which planets sit in which whole-sign house. Saves your app from iterating over the /v1/chart/planets response and bucketing by `house`.
Request
All requests require an Authorization header with your dv_live_* API key.
curl "https://api.lifeastroapi.com/v1/chart/house-occupants?date=1990-01-15&tz=Asia%2FKolkata&lat=19.076&lon=72.8777&time=10%3A30" \

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.
| Field | Type | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| date | string | Birth date you sent (YYYY-MM-DD), echoed back. example: "1990-01-15" |
| time | string | Birth time you sent, echoed back. "12:00" when you leave `time` out. example: "10:30" |
| tz | string | Timezone you sent (IANA name or fixed offset such as +05:30), echoed back. example: "Asia/Kolkata" |
| location | object | Birth coordinates used. `alt` is in metres and is 0 unless you send `alt`. example: { "lat": 19.076, "lon": 72.8777, "alt": 0 } |
| ayanamsa | string | Ayanamsa used. Default lahiri; set it with the `ayanamsa` parameter (lahiri, raman, krishnamurti, fagan, yukteshwar, true_chitrapaksha). example: "lahiri" |
| ayanamsa_value | number | Ayanamsa in degrees at the birth moment. Sidereal longitude = tropical longitude − this value. example: 23.71795 |
| house_system | string | Echo of the optional `house_system` parameter (default whole_sign). This endpoint does not use it, so you never need to send it; only /v1/chart/houses changes with it. Planet `house` numbers here are always whole-sign. example: "whole_sign" |
| houses[] | array of 12 objects | Houses 1 to 12, in order. example: [{ "house": 1, "occupants": [] }, …] |
| houses[].house | integer (1–12) | Whole-sign house number, counted from the ascendant sign. example: 1 |
| houses[].occupants | string[] | Planets in this house, in the order Sun to Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are included. Empty array if none. Names are translated with `locale`. example: [] |
Usage tips
How to use it
- Primary chart-drawing dataFor a North Indian chart (fixed houses), render each house with its `occupants` list. For a South Indian chart (fixed signs), the sign of house N is (ascendant `sign_index` + N − 1) mod 12; get the ascendant from /v1/chart/ascendant.
