/v1/chart/divisional/{varga}

Divisional chart D1 through D60.

What this tells you

Divisional charts (vargas) split each sign into smaller parts and map each part to a sign, giving a separate chart for a specific life area. The most important is D9 (Navamsa) for marriage and life purpose; D10 (Dashamsa) is used for career and D7 (Saptamsa) for children. A planet placed well in D1 but badly in the relevant varga may not deliver its promised effects in that area. The response gives each planet's varga sign and house plus the varga lagna sign; it does not give degrees inside the varga.

Field reference

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.

FieldTypeMeaning
datestring
Birth date you sent (YYYY-MM-DD), echoed back.
example: "1990-01-15"
timestring
Birth time you sent, echoed back. "12:00" when you leave `time` out.
example: "10:30"
tzstring
Timezone you sent (IANA name or fixed offset such as +05:30), echoed back.
example: "Asia/Kolkata"
locationobject
Birth coordinates used. `alt` is in metres and is 0 unless you send `alt`.
example: { "lat": 19.076, "lon": 72.8777, "alt": 0 }
ayanamsastring
Ayanamsa used. Default lahiri; set it with the `ayanamsa` parameter (lahiri, raman, krishnamurti, fagan, yukteshwar, true_chitrapaksha).
example: "lahiri"
ayanamsa_valuenumber
Ayanamsa in degrees at the birth moment. Sidereal longitude = tropical longitude − this value.
example: 23.71795
house_systemstring
Echo of the optional `house_system` parameter (default whole_sign). This endpoint does not use it, so you never need to send it; only /v1/chart/houses changes with it.
example: "whole_sign"
chartobject
The divisional chart you asked for.
example: { "varga": "D1", "divisor": 1, … }
chart.vargastring
Varga code, normalised to the D-form (a request for `navamsa` or `9` returns "D9").
example: "D1"
chart.divisorinteger
How many parts each sign is split into (9 for D9).
example: 1
chart.namestring
Traditional name of the varga.
example: "Rashi"
Jyotish: D1=Rashi, D2=Hora, D3=Drekkana, D4=Chaturthamsa, D7=Saptamsa, D8=Ashtamsa, D9=Navamsa, D10=Dashamsa, D12=Dwadashamsa, D16=Shodashamsa, D20=Vimshamsa, D24=Chaturvimshamsa, D27=Saptavimshamsa, D30=Trimshamsa, D40=Khavedamsa, D45=Akshavedamsa, D60=Shashtiamsa.
chart.lagna_signinteger (0–11)
Sign of the ascendant in this varga (0=Aries, …, 11=Pisces). Houses below are counted from it.
example: 10
chart.planets[]array of 9 objects
One entry per graha, Sun to Ketu.
example: [{ "planet": "Sun", … }, …]
chart.planets[].planetstring
Planet name. Translated with `locale`.
example: "Sun"
chart.planets[].sign_indexinteger (0–11)
Sign the planet falls in within this varga.
example: 9
chart.planets[].houseinteger (1–12)
Whole-sign house counted from `lagna_sign`.
example: 12

Usage tips

How to use it

  • Path variable
    Accepts D1, D2, D3, D4, D7, D8, D9, D10, D12, D16, D20, D24, D27, D30, D40, D45, D60. Case does not matter, and the bare number (`9`) or the name (`navamsa`) also works. Anything else returns 400 `invalid_param`.
  • Most apps need only D9 and D10
Start with Navamsa (marriage) and Dashamsa (career). Add others on demand.
  • Rendering
Place `chart.planets` by `house` for a North Indian chart, or by `sign_index` for a South Indian chart with `lagna_sign` marked.
