/v1/chart/combustion

Combustion status for each planet.

What this tells you

A planet too close to the Sun is "combust" — its significations are weakened because it's "burned" by the Sun's rays. Each planet has its own classical threshold per Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. Combustion is a major weakening factor separate from dignity.

Field reference

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.

FieldTypeMeaning
datestring
Birth date you sent (YYYY-MM-DD), echoed back.
example: "1990-01-15"
timestring
Birth time you sent, echoed back. "12:00" when you leave `time` out.
example: "10:30"
tzstring
Timezone you sent (IANA name or fixed offset such as +05:30), echoed back.
example: "Asia/Kolkata"
locationobject
Birth coordinates used. `alt` is in metres and is 0 unless you send `alt`.
example: { "lat": 19.076, "lon": 72.8777, "alt": 0 }
ayanamsastring
Ayanamsa used. Default lahiri; set it with the `ayanamsa` parameter (lahiri, raman, krishnamurti, fagan, yukteshwar, true_chitrapaksha).
example: "lahiri"
ayanamsa_valuenumber
Ayanamsa in degrees at the birth moment. Sidereal longitude = tropical longitude − this value.
example: 23.71795
house_systemstring
Echo of the optional `house_system` parameter (default whole_sign). This endpoint does not use it, so you never need to send it; only /v1/chart/houses changes with it.
example: "whole_sign"
combustion[]array of 9 objects
One entry per graha, Sun to Ketu. Sun, Rahu and Ketu are always `is_combust: false` with `orb_used: 0`; the Sun also has `angular_sep: 0`.
example: [{ "planet": "Sun", "is_combust": false, … }, …]
combustion[].planetstring
Planet name. Translated with `locale`.
example: "Sun"
combustion[].is_combustboolean
True when `angular_sep` is less than `orb_used`.
example: false
combustion[].orb_usednumber (degrees)
Combustion limit applied: Moon 12°, Mars 17°, Mercury 14° (12° when retrograde), Jupiter 11°, Venus 10° (8° when retrograde), Saturn 15°. 0 for Sun, Rahu and Ketu (not combustible).
example: 0
combustion[].angular_sepnumber (0–180)
Shortest angular distance from the Sun in degrees of sidereal longitude.
example: 0
combustion[].is_retroboolean
Retrograde status — changes the limit for Mercury and Venus.
example: false

Usage tips

How to use it

  • Combined with dignity for strength
A planet that is both combust AND debilitated needs special remedies. Surface this combination prominently.
  • Mercury is combust often
Mercury is always within about 28° of the Sun, so it is often inside its 14° limit (12° when retrograde). Don't alarm users unnecessarily.
