/v1/chart/ashtakvarga
Sarva + 7 Bhinna Ashtakavarga charts.
What this tells you
Ashtakavarga assigns "bindus" (points) to each sign, based on the positions of the 7 planets and the ascendant relative to each other. High bindus in a sign = that sign receives favorable energy. Used heavily for transit predictions ("when Jupiter transits a sign with 6 bindus, good events"). The Sarva total of 337 is a classical invariant. The values here are before any reduction (sodhana).

Every field in the response, with its type, a real example, and what it means.
| Field | Type | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| date | string | Birth date you sent (YYYY-MM-DD), echoed back. example: "1990-01-15" |
| time | string | Birth time you sent, echoed back. "12:00" when you leave `time` out. example: "10:30" |
| tz | string | Timezone you sent (IANA name or fixed offset such as +05:30), echoed back. example: "Asia/Kolkata" |
| location | object | Birth coordinates used. `alt` is in metres and is 0 unless you send `alt`. example: { "lat": 19.076, "lon": 72.8777, "alt": 0 } |
| ayanamsa | string | Ayanamsa used. Default lahiri; set it with the `ayanamsa` parameter (lahiri, raman, krishnamurti, fagan, yukteshwar, true_chitrapaksha). example: "lahiri" |
| ayanamsa_value | number | Ayanamsa in degrees at the birth moment. Sidereal longitude = tropical longitude − this value. example: 23.71795 |
| house_system | string | Echo of the optional `house_system` parameter (default whole_sign). This endpoint does not use it, so you never need to send it; only /v1/chart/houses changes with it. example: "whole_sign" |
| ashtakvarga | object | Bhinna and Sarva Ashtakavarga for the chart. example: { "bav": […], "sav": […], "sav_total": 337 } |
| ashtakvarga.bav[] | array of 7 objects | Bhinna Ashtakavarga for Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn. Rahu and Ketu are not part of Ashtakavarga. example: [{ "planet": "Sun", "bindus": […], "total": 48 }, …] |
| ashtakvarga.bav[].planet | string | Planet name. Translated with `locale`. example: "Sun" |
| ashtakvarga.bav[].bindus | integer[12] | Bindus per sign. Index 0 = Aries, index 11 = Pisces — by sign, not by house. example: [4, 4, …] |
| ashtakvarga.bav[].total | integer | Sum of the 12 values. Fixed per planet: Sun 48, Moon 49, Mars 39, Mercury 54, Jupiter 56, Venus 52, Saturn 39. example: 48 |
| ashtakvarga.sav | integer[12] | Sarva Ashtakavarga: the 7 `bindus` arrays added sign by sign. Index 0 = Aries, index 11 = Pisces. example: [33, 31, …] |
| ashtakvarga.sav_total | integer | Sum of the 12 `sav` values. Always 337. example: 337 |
Usage tips
How to use it
- Transit scoringLook up the sign a planet is transiting in `sav` (or in that planet's own `bindus`) — high = favorable transit. /v1/ashtakavarga/transit-score does this for you: send the birth chart as `birth.date`, `birth.time`, `birth.tz`, `birth.lat`, `birth.lon` and the transit day as `date` and `tz`.
- Heat-map visualizationRender the 12 `sav` values (index 0 = Aries) as a bar chart, colored from red (low) to green (high).
- Reductions (sodhana)For trikona and ekadhipatya reductions, call /v1/ashtakavarga/sarva. It reads the birth chart from `birth.date`, `birth.time`, `birth.tz`, `birth.lat`, `birth.lon`.
